Project: Art Commision

Commissioned by the client to produce two works of art. I chose to work with nature's beauty; fossils from the Eocene period (51 million years old). The pieces were mounted in the pool room and the dining room of this impressive home in Yorkshire.

About Stone UK Ltd
Fossil & Mineral Information

We offer exceptional fossils, minerals and meteorites for interior designers, collectors and research, as well as unique fossil stone for use as surfaces, flooring and wall coverings. Our guarantee of authenticity makes each of our world class pieces a valuable, as well as aesthetically satisfying investment.

Our fossils are composed of the sedimentary layers of the deepest part of an ancient Fossil Lake which existed in the Eocene period 45 to 50 million years ago. Now located 7,300 feet above sea level, the layers of sedimentary limestone reveal the rich variety of life that thrived in the region in and around the lake during the Eocene.

Our specimens are quarried by a specially trained team who remove the fossils according to scientific specifications. Each digging season (May to October), yields a fascinating collection of finds, including a wide variety of fish, as well as the considerably more rare palm fronds, turtles, crocodiles and birds.

The unique sedimentary layers of quarry have been studied since the mid 1800’s. The owner of the quarry, has been inviting select palaeontologists and geologists to conduct scientific research into the quarry since his first involvement in the 1980’s. The methods of fossil excavation, using hand tools, are in keeping with standards agreed upon by the scientific community. Preparation standards also conform to the current scientific parameters which are updated via membership of the American Association of Paleontological Suppliers.

Fossils and artefacts from the quarry are also displayed by the Fossil Butte National Monument in the United States.

Photos of outstanding fossils and minerals, acquired from around the world are available as specimens become available upon request.
